Default Clutch Stuck? I think...HELP!!!

Well to begin with my bike has a very hard time starting in the mornings, Factory Jet kit and slip on are the only mods.

Bike starts instantly on choke, idels fine for a couple minutes and dies, if I leave the gas off for the warmup and ride for a few on choke then with the gas on its sometimes fine.

Well this morning it wasnt fine, it stalled out which Ive found the only reasonable solution to is a roll start after that it will usually start right up and be fine no problems ever again.

This morning the Roll Start didnt work so I push the stupid bike back up the hill to my house go inside for a break ( so I didnt just shoot it ) When I come back out I try to crank it over and no beans, so ok one more pust start I put it into gear, pull in the clutch (which feels perfectly normal) and go to start pushing it down the hill for another roll start and the bike wont roll forward. The clutch is still deffinatly engaged. I tried to adjust the clutch at the lever but it didnt help at all.

What could have happened while I was push starting that would kill the clutch or cause it to become stuck?

Thanks in advance,
Morgan

Hey Morgan,

That sucks about pushing your bike up hill... I feel your pain. I had to push mine across DC one time and majority of it was up hill. About the clutch sticking, when you pull the clutch lever, does the lever on the clutch housing move? It already sounds like you have done this, but is there excessive slope in the clutch lever? Another note, because the clutches in bikes are wet, they will stick slightly when the engine has been off for a while. If my bike has been sitting around for a while, there will be a very settle lurch forward when starting. Try this, start the bike in neutral. Pull the clutch lever in and out while in neutral. You should be able to hear if the clutch is not disengaging. If you don't hear the settle rumble/rolling (difficult to describe) noise going away when you pull in the clutch, then there might be something going on.

First off all your carbs/maybe carb sync is way out of wack. You shouldnt never have to ride the bike with the choke engaged at all. I would get that checked into also.

Your clutch isnt stuck together because they are wet units. They should never stick together bad enough from sitting to keep the tire locked up (no offense marc). Almost sounds as if the roll pin (under the cover) came loose from the lever (outside the cover). So when you pull the lever it pulls the lever at the cover, but doesnt push the pin that disengages the clutches. following me? Idunno, ive never heard anything like this.

Let us know what happens.

So Ive decided the bike just hated me for leaving it outside for the nite, I went back home for a bit still wouldnt start still wouldnt dissengage battery although new was getting kinda low so I roll it down my ever so long driveway into the garage (PITA) to set up the trickle charger and F with it next week when I have time. I pull it into the garage and just for the hell of it try to start it. It starts instantly Clutch dissengages but clunks into gear kinda hard but only the first time. Now everything is perfect, like nother ever happened. I just dont know.

Well thanks for the help and If I ever figure out what it really was Ill let you know.

I'm telling you that these bikes are temperamental like a small child sometimes. Coming from a world of automatic cars and always start ups, sport bikes, while being well built, IMO can be very finicky at times(especially in the shifting department). Unfortuneately its the price we have to pay for these 90+ hp beasts.
