Default Clutch Adjustment

I have a 97 F3 with the stock levers. The clutch however, only needs about a half of an inch of movement to completely disengage the transmission. The lack of movement in the lever just doesn't feel like it's giving me enough slip sometimes. Is there a way to adjust that or it that just how these bikes are? Also, would one of those adjustable levers help that at all or are they only going to adjust the distance from the grip? Thanks.

You can adjust the amount of freeplay in the clutch lever before it starts to do anything (cable adjustment), but you'd have to get new clutch plates to increase the amount of distance after you start to hit the clutch springs.
