CDI's

According to the parts fiche on RonAyers.com:
CDI part numbers 30410-MAL-A01 / 30410-MAL-A81 apply only to 97-98 F3, while
30410-MV9-600 / 30410-MV9-770 or
30410-MAL-671 / 30410-MAL-771 apply 91 F2 thru 96 F3.
It's just a guess, but i bet one of the p/n for each pair is the CALI model, which I think has retarded ignition programmed in...
In one of the F2 / F3 parts interchange threads... http://cbrworld.net/forums/8/15735/ShowThread.aspx
One guy says he used F3 CDI on F2 with ' no problems', but on page 6 of that thread another person says they're 'wired differently'.
I know the carbs on the 97-98 are different (Larger main jets) than 95-96 F3, so it would make sense to me that the later CDI would have a different "map" of throttle position sensor angle versus ignition timing. And the F2 years don't have a TPS at all, so I think that's got to make a difference in the CDI.
To make matters more annoying, the 95-96 CDI box that I have is actually stamped "MALA US 973G 5214", not the p/n above
