Default CDI test

so i think i need a new CDI on my f3, wondering if there is a way to test the old one to make sure thats what is fried. pretty sure the timing is off, therefore the bike doesnt run and backfires. took the airbox apart and found what seems to be backfire residue that didnt used to be there(not sure how much it matters to the situation). I dont want to foul new plugs by installing them and cranking again if the CDI is whats cooked. any advice would be helpful

well i jumped my bike from my running car first of all. theres another thread i put up that people arent posting on anymore, so i had to ask this one( its called " i screwed up" farther down the f3 thread list). battery is ok, didnt check rr however. after reading posts from the other thread, im taking the problem to be timing and the fault to be voltage surge from the car. i just dont want to put $35 worth of plugs in only to foul them the same way the first ones went. i dont know as much as i'd like to on the subject, so any and all help is appreciated.
