Default CBR F3 Will not start! Backfires, it started and ran fine yesterday

Yesterday I intended to repaint the fuel cap, so i took it off and covered the tank so nothing would get in there. After I took off the fuel cap, i tried to start it but it started but died right away so i tried to start again but it wouldnt start, the next day (Today) I put the fuel cap back on and it would backfire (really loud) with the choke but it wouldnt backfire with choke off.

The bike started and ran fine before this incident, does taking off the fuel cap has anything to do with bike not building enough presure and not starting now? Please help me as I am a newbie and I do not know what went wrong.

The bike has 35k miles but it ran fine before. The only thing I had diagnosed with the bike was that the CCT was rattling at low RPM but even with that , it ran fine and didnt give me any problems.

Note: I start the bike everyday since I do not ride it and have not for 2 weeks and it has old gas in it.

Please help!

You may have flooded the engine and need to take out plugs and crank it for a few seconds and light the plug ends to burn off fuel. At least that's the stuff I did when mine did that. Good luck!

Also, check plugs as they may be in need of replacing. I had some sucky old ones in mine and replaced em and then it ran great..

thanks for the advice man i really appreciate it, i will give it a shot tommorow morning, currently i am really pissed and not satisfied with things, i mean i hope this is not a huge problem to deal with, i dont want anything majorly wrong with the bike considering that i recently bought brand new repsol fairing which is on its way

Plus, the reason why im pissed is that i had repainted my frame 3 days ago and i accidently spilled all the gas over it when i was trying to see if the breathing tubes were okay and it messedup all the paint! so now i have to repaint them

I have really noticed something, this bike is cursed for me. It ran great and all but everytime i try to make it "perfect", something really goes wrong. Another big headache now!
Thanks though for the advice

Welcome! And i know what ya mean..I bought my F3 5 or 6 months ago at least and still haven't been able to ride on the road.. It was stunter and was 110% ghetto so going back stock has been hell. But now I'm about 95% done and looking back, it was really fun and I learned alot! Stick to it and good luck!

Oh, I wouldnt think of the problem being anything big or expensive considering the only thing you changed was messing around starting it w/o cap.. A little advice on taking the plugs out: take off both sides of fairings around the engine and just use a ratchet with I think 1 small extension. It makes it tons faster than taking off rad. and all the ram air stuff. Just kinda work the socket down in the hole. I think I had to put plug socket down gently with my finger lodged in the connector hole and then put small extender on and then ratchet. Its close working space, but it's do-able.

First, why do you start the bike everyday and not ride it? Even if you let a bike sit for 3+ weeks, it will start. But it seems like you start it everyday because there is a ____________ (you tell me).

2nd, by starting it everyday and just idling it, the battery is not regaining the charge it lost from having to crank your engine. Since you say you have not ridden it for 2 weeks and start the bike everyday, your battery is most likely dead.

So do not start the bike everyday unless you intend to ride it or unless you like charging batteries

btw:
i never heard of the gas cap acting as a pressure sealer for the fuel pumps to work correctly. I've actually seen many cars and bikes start with the cap open. I will ask around.

Dang sorry bout my guess being wrong.. Didn't think about what jpanside said.. Hope his idea is correct..

And as far as the cap sealing I wasn't thinking straight..considering I've fueled my bike with it running I'ma keep my mouth shut for a while lol

make sure your battery is fully charged and ready to go.
20 bucks for a motorcycle battery charger at walmart.

make sure your fuel pump is pumping.
make sure your fuel filter is clean enough to let fuel through.
make sure your plugs are fine and properly gapped.
make sure you start your bike w/o revving or applying throttle, only choke.
make sure your choke is working.
make sure you have good oil in your bike, and filter.

when you start your bike, hold the starter down for 5 seconds, then let off for about the same.
