CBR 600 1998 Flatside Carbs
Hi, Over the last few Covid lockdown months I've been cobbling together a CBR 600 FW track-bike, finally arrived at the carb stage and have the chance of a set of Keihin FCR 35mm. Has anyone fitted this type of carb ?, how did the bike run?.
Cheers

hi dave these carbs are great especially for a sidecar outfit as they spend more time on full throttle than solos.
i run fcr33s on mine and they give great throttle response if you are used to 2t carbs then youll be ok with these.
just be careful as you can bog down v easy with these.
what spec is your track bike ??
i have 5 race steal framed cbrs myself

The engine was worked on before I bought it, i bought a frame, wiring harness, 600rr forks and the engine. the original owner had spent quite a bit ££ on the engine which hasn't been ran since the work was carried out.
I have the 35mm Flat sides which I understand were originally fitted on an F3,
Q: 1) Have you had any issues with lack of air flow to the underside of the tank ?
2) Are you using an airbox
3) Is there a need to place a heat shield between the carbs and the engine.

i dont use airbox as making one is a pain in the **** (i did but its tight in there so didnt use in the end) just use pod filters
keep the airbox ram air snorkle as this allows good flow to the carbs
heat shield is advisable to keep the carbs cool.
join cbr600 steelframed racers uk and Ireland on fb. Tons of info about tuning etc on these bikes.
who did the tuning to the motor?
I appreciate this deviates from what you're asking but have you considered a fuel injection conversion? Probably could be done for similar money to a set of fcr carbs - more work though but perfectly doable. I did one on a bandit 1200 and it gives much more room for maneuver when it comes to the tuning. No horrible rich spots you can't tune out without making compromises elsewhere etc. Just a thought
