Cleaning the carbs isn't hard at all. As mentioned before, they are hard to get off the first time though. I have a engine hoist and pull them off by running a couple straps through then... takes all the pull and pushin out of it. Just about 5 or 6 pumps and they slip right off.
The other thing that hasn't been mentioned is when you put them back on the bike. You will have to sync the carbs. It is easy, you just need the carb sync to do it.

 

Not sure why everyone is so die hard about syncing the carbs. I went 7 years with no sync and probably took my carbs apart 30 times. I synced not to long ago and it was only a hair off.

 

Dude, you've been here long enough to know the one guy who ran his bike with no oil and a bicycle chain for 100k and never had a problem is a bizzarre fluke and should be ignored.

Look at my last problem; that 2nd cylinder was WAY off, and the sync cleared up the majority of my issues.

 

I am still wondering how your sync got that far off in the first place... lol. Anyway, I am more talking about how people say you must sync after a carb cleaning. No way in hell is that a "must." If you have trouble idling, or have tried everything and your bike is fouling plugs, then sync, otherwise go ride. ^_^

Yeah, anyone who has to take their carbs out 30 times in 7 years has some serious luck problems.

 

That wasnt bad luck, just me always tinkering around to see what worked best.
