Bigger sprockets
I have a '95 F3 currently undergoing motor surgery (swapping motor) and while she's down I would like to replace my rear and front sprockets to get a little more torque, but I don't want to sacrafice too much top end. Does anyone know the "sweet spot" combination for this bike? I'm thinking 2 up in the back and 1 down in the front but what do you guys think?
-1/+2 will be giving up a lot of top end. On my 1000RR a combination like that reduces the top speed by nearly 20 mph. It was a popular combination for a while but a lot of riders who just ride on the street ended up either going back to stock or maybe just a -1 on the front. The -1/+2 cruised at too high of an engine speed.
I went with a -1/+0 about a month ago and, combined with a slightly taller profile rear tire, it seems like a great combination.
Go to the Gearing Commander website where you can experiment with various gear combinations and tire sizes and see how each one affects the rpm and top speed. Load you bike's default gearing from the drop-down menu and plug in some numbers.
