Default best size for cornering

i like 2 corner the **** out of my bike. almost rode the flat side of the rear tire hence almost slide out from under me. so talked it over with my friends and said that i need 2 go smaller in the back so i can get more out the the cornering. i know stock is 170 and currently running a 180 ever since i have the bike. is this true would i get more out of a 170 or even a 160 cause i just dont like the skinny look from the rear.

It isn't that a smaller tire corners better as much as the fact that your rim is supposed to take a 160 tire (otherwise people would be putting on bicycle tires). Stuffing a 180 on there messes up the curve of the tire. On top of that it adds rotating mass making your bike harder to flick over. If you want to corner properly, get over how it looks and go back to stock 160. If you want a wider tire, buy a bike that is supposed to have a wider tire.

Doesn't make a difference what year it is?
I thought that the 97-98 f3's have a larger rear rim 6.5" i think and so the 170 is stock but the older f3's have a 160 standard with the 6" rim.
I may be wrong though.
I have a 98 and and it has a 170 on it as I was told that was stock.

My mechanic used to have his AMA license so I trust him.
He put on some Pilot Powers 120/70 and 160/60
Stock on my '98 was 120/60 and 160/60

The newer bikes all have 120/70 and 180/55 if you look on the websites..
Probably a wider rim but the taller profile up front makes it flick more easy he said.

the stock size, 160 I believe because that is what the rim was designed to use. I fatter tire on a rim it wasnt designed to be on hinders handling and phuqs up the profile of the tire.

Michelin Pilot Powers and Bridgestone 016s are the best street tire to use for cornering. The "dual compound tires" are not worth the extra money.I have B'stone 002 Pro (soft compound)on the front and the 090 (medium) on the rear, grips like glue.120/70 front,160/60 rear. The 120/60 is NOT a good cornering tire, plus none of the really good tires are available in that size.

Make sure that you always use the same brand/model front and rear.Do NOT mix brands, unless you want to crash.

Rear wheel width on the F3 is 5.0",not 6.5 <lmao>

On these bikes, the tire is what makes the difference. If you really want to do it right, upgrade your suspension.

Get race spec leathers if you haven't already.

Holla back.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the 2nd number on a tire size is just side wall height. How does a 120/60 corner worse than a 120/70?
