I'm lookin for an innexpensive bike to do level 1 track

I have a 2009 CBR 600RR and we also have a 97 F3 I love

I want to do Track Days but not on our street bikes

I found a 91 F3 7400 miles for 2500 .. I'm thinking that might be my track bike

I know most people can't ride a 600 to it's potential anyway

Anyone on here track F3s ? What do you think of the idea ? Too old of a bike?

i actually was going to by an 03 kawi zx6r track bike for 1800 a month or so ago. It was in great condition but funds fell through. Just so ya know there are good deals out there.

I would think an older bike would be just fine. I would try to stick with 97-98 f3 though because of the ram air. I guess it depends on you.

 

Yes, I use an F3 for trackdays. In fact it is a track only bike.
Bike is fine for trackdays but I needed to seriously beef up the forks, far too soft as standard. I also changed the rear shock and am playing with ride heights. I also applied the HRC mods to the ram air system. It's hopelessly outclassed by modern 600's let alone 1000's of course but that's mainly on the straight. I guess if you were good the handling at full chat would not be as good as modern stuff but it's good enough for my ability.

Currently running Michelin Pilot Road 3's as the weather is cold and wet and I thought these would do all conditions. They seem to grip ok but the feel is rubbish. They don't seem to need warmers either, in fact I can't seem to get them hot even in the dry at low track temp. Very odd tyres compared to sports tyres but grip more in the cold and wet. I'll probably not bother again with them if I can ever wear them out. Will use full race wets or slicks in future.

 

91 isn't a F3, That's a F2

 

My 96 F3 is a track only bike and anything but stock. The forks have Race Tech compression and high speed rebound valves and Sonic Spring springs. I'm using a Penske rear shock. The engine is my pride and joy.

I have a 94 f2 track only. Great bike, basically stock, jet kit, full exhaust, home modded forks, rebuilt stock shock by Lindemen Enginerring for my weight. Steel frame crashes better than aluminum frames they say. Tons of cheap parts on ebay. Plus theres going to be slower guys on faster bikes that you are going to be passing in the turns then they come by you down the straights. Dont worry about it. Your not racing anyone, your at the track to have fun and go home with you and your bike in one peice. Do the maintenance , dont go mod crazy, reliability keeps you on the track and not trying to fix stuff in the pits when you should be on the track. One of my favorite days at the track was when an 08 cbr 1000 I kept passing in the turns then he came by me on the straight but on the last time he tried to out brake me at the end of the straight and ran off into the grass. He came up to me in the pits and we both had a nice laugh. Track Days are awesome.

 

Was wondering how much difference the advancer made, I don't suppose you tested it separately?
