98 F3 Project...Need Info
Hey guys just have some questions for ya,
Heres the low down, guy in my sportbike forum has a 98 F3 frame and swing arm he wants to sell me for $350. Considering I'm in need of some 2 wheeled action bad here is my questions.
-how hard is it to find parts..
-how about the avalibilty on style / aftermarket parts..
-I read the specs and pulling 105hp, what can I do for added power..
-Is there any other years body / bigger engines I could put into that frame..
-Is there any suggestions you guys might have to shoot this honda rookie..
-How much do you guys expect the cost to gett it running if I was modest about parts and mods..
My last bike was a r1 but I have had honda's in street bikes and dirt bikes. Thanks for the help fellas just wanting a lil justification for giving my money away on a new project..

RE: 98 F3 Project...Need Info
1) parts are easy to find and usually pretty cheap, just wait for a good deal on ebay or check the part out threads
2)not sure what you mean. Aftermarket F3 parts are starting to get outdated so depending on what you are wanting to do, it may be hard to find some parts
3)105 hp is a lot for this bike. 100hp is average. Without cams you won't see much more than 100hp but it will still keep up or out run any newer 600 because of the extra torque the carbed bike has over the fuel injected ones
4)Get familiar with an F3 and do it
5) I would estimate about $2500-3000 to build from the ground up without a lot of aftermarket parts. You think it would be cheaper but its the little things that get you and depending on how much you want to do, it only goes up
I am doing the exact thing you are, building an F3 from the ground up. It took about a month and a half to come up with all of the parts. Its and easy bike to build and to work on. I am doing a lot with mine and have put a lot of aftermarket stuff in it, mainly suspension, because its my race bike too. Even with my discounts from working at a motorcycle store, I will probably have $3000 in the bike and thats finding good deals on everything. Same bike for anybody else to build would be about $4500 or so, but I put a lot of money into my suspension as well as powdercoating my frame and rims.
If it helps you project start cheaper, I have an F3 frame I really need to get rid of. I don't have a title or swingarm and the frame is perfectly straight, I only want $150 for it. Just apply for lost title and by the time you finish building the bike you will have had time to process the title stuff. Let me know if you got questions, just PM me or email

good luck!
