98 F3 Problems after 45mph...
so the estimate is 800+ dollars for them to fix the 'idle circuit' apparently its not switching over from it to give the bike power, and they also want to change my air filter and spark plugs 'just to cover everything'. can anyone tell me what the 'idle circuit' is and if its worth that much money? i'd prefer to do it on my own as the bike is barely worth 3000. does anyone have any experience with this type of thing?
Let me know if it was the CDI. Im having the exact same problem. Everything is fine untill 3rd gear. It starst bogging and bucking likes its outta gas and cuts in and out. Whas hoping I only need a CDI or carbs sychned.
I found this on a idle circuit. Man I hope this aint whats wrong with mine, looks like a pain in the ***.
You need to clean out the idle circuit.
1. Remove fuel mixture screw on the bottom of each carb see step 6 in this downloadable PDF.. when you remove the screw be sure to get the o-ring and metal washer out with the screw.
2. Remove float bowl
3. Remove Diaphragms and slides (so the carb cleaner wont damage them)
4. Remove the Idle jets and clean with a very fine wire (a wire brush wire works well here) until you can see light coming through it.
5. Spray carb cleaner through the screw opening.
6. Reinstal the mixture screw and turn it carfully all the way in DO NOT tighten it down. The taper of the screw will stop when it hits the hole inside, if you keep turning it it will ruin the carburators. After running the screw in all the way you will now want tolosen it 1/2 turn,
7. Finish putting everything back together and it should run fine. http://cbrworld.net/forums/post/264609.aspx

its not the cdi, i swapped it out with my friend's and it did nothing for me. so i ruled that out before it went to the shop. i saw the same thing about the idle circuit and i'm having a hard time believing that cleaning it out like that costs like 800 dollars. cause i will rip it apart myself if thats the case
took the carbs out on... wednesday and figured since they are our might as well get a jet kit. so that came on friday, i will be installing the jet kit and re-assembling tomorrow, afternoon/night time. i'll let you know what happens then.
had a small issue with re-assembly, one of the carbs wasn't seated all the way and gas was coming out so i will be pulling it apart again today and re-seating them. should know by tonight. this is very frustrating.
