98' f3 big trouble--gas spillage all over parents garage
damnit its just one of those days where nothing can go right, let me rewind to cap up today - missed a 10,000$ a year promotion "job is on hold" (a$sholes), also i had a backup job that would be 5,000$ more a year, and that fell thru (hired someone more qualified), and i come home to dog $hit on my bed. not to mention the relative problem i have as to why im posting- i just had my carbs professionally cleaned put them back on today and the airbox and fuel tank. i goto startup my bike and well i know the fuel pump works cause it was coming out pretty good them there. it did not seem like it was running down the hose and coming out of the fuel tank itself, but im wondering why this is happening. maybe fuel was not able to flow out of the pump? i checked for kinks and it was ok. which leaves me wondering. ohh and this leak in the garage basically got me banned from working on bikes here at my parents house cause this is the 3rd leak and it stinks up the house. any tips on smell control either? thanks in advance.

there's a few things we need to know in order to help ya here before throwing out some answers.
did you have this problem before the carbs were professionally cleaned? as in, did it run fine without that problem before? could it have something to do with the guy assembling the tank and pump and missing something? if so you should take it back and allow him to fix his mistakes.
the honest to best way to solve this problem is to trace the fuel line from the tank all the way into the carbs, because there could be a TON of reasons why. If you would like us to help, we'd love to help as best we can, but detailed descriptions help a TON, especially PICTURES/VIDEOS.
If you don't feel confident taking your bike apart (trust me, ive been there) or aren't allowed to because of your housing situation, maybe like a mechanic look at it?
Coming from experience, it might be better to let someone else fix it locally so you don't do something dumb like I did and catch things on fire around the house. I got a mechanic to show me how to clean carbs (tipped him an extra case of beer and he walked me through) and ever since its been night and day for me.
We'd love to help buddy, throw us some pictures, more info, or an update on your progress!

and for Kuro, lets just say I had a oil pan full of gasoiline (chain cleaning) out by the road which is beside my apartment. What are the odds you say, of a guy throwing a cigarette out the window into it? Well in a college town which runs solely on that kind of comedy, apparently highly likely.
OP, Let us know on the update!

i bought the bike non running "carbs need good cleaning" like he let old gas sit in there for maybe 3+ years only 16k miles on the bike. ill post some pics after i take it apart today, and im no mechanic but i got a tool set and have taken apart and built these f2/f3s bottom up before, i reconnected the carbs and everything i just had a guy clean them right cause they were really bad and gummed up worse then i could get it out. it SEEMS to be coming from the fuel pump. so maybe its a bad gasket- anyways ill know more later today after work and if its not solved ill post some pics.

Did you know the guy you bought it from?
You might have a bit more cleaning to do if that gas is that old in your bike.
But good news, if it's just the fuel pump, they are super cheap on ebay, and also IDoDirt has a great thread for repairing them (the contacts anyways)
worst case scenerio, you buy the 350~ dollar (drop in, ready to go) engine on ebay right now.Yes, It's a killer deal.

i just saw what you said about controlling the smell and I do a few things myself that might help...
If you can work outside with gasoline, please do.
I have these animal pee pads that absorb a ton of liquid i throw under the bike when i do the carbs, and then i toss kitty litter on it.
I know it sounds a bit weird, but it's inexpensive, and I have a cat named Eternal Death Slayer 3. He likes to sit on my bike and watch.
