Default 97 cbr600F3 Speed Limiter??

Hey all,

Just bought a 1997 F3 in great condition, but I think there's a rev limiter or top speed limiter on the bike.

Once I hit 180km/h even at full throttle the rpm's will flatten out and the bike won't go anymore even though there's plenty of headroom. Usually I'm in about 4th gear at 180km/h.

Is there an easy way to disengage this? Will something like the Vance & Hines Powerpack (ignition timing) help?

Any thoughts or experience with this is greatly appreciated!

Cheers, newbie

Hmm, I've never had that problem. I picked my 97 with a lot of miles on it though. The previous owner went down one in the front but that would reduce my top end speed.

I've pushed it on a drag strip to about 140mph. And I had a little headroom left.

The sprockets are stock, there was a problem with a few wire couplers which were replaced. Haven't had a chance to take it to top speed again yet.

when at full throttle I get a good push then it will back off, almost feels like a fuel line problem. Not sure, hoping it's not something with the carbs.

The shop I picked it up from has been helpful and they will fix whatever is wrong with it, sooner or later...I just wanna ride >.<

The speedo is in km/h and stops at 180, so I'm thinking there must be a limiter in there somewhere. These bikes should push 240km/h = 150mph no problem right?? Am I missing something?

Far as I know these bikes don't have any kind of limiter/governor. At least not at speeds that low. I think you're probably going the right route suspecting something in the fuel delivery system.

for a bike that has a 175mph top speed, i dont think there is ever a concern for speed limiter... thats a bout 280 kmh... each gear has its limit of course but you should be utilizing all gears

I think 175 is a tad optimistic.

Indeed. Especially if you're talking about actually speed, not just indicated, as our bikes are off about 5%. Neither here nor there..

Your real speed, and what the speedo says, are not the same thing. Especially at high speeds. 155 is a more realistic expectation for an older 600.

That's measured speed.Engine condition and build greatly affect top speed. So does wheel alignment.

No,there is no limiter on the bike.

If your bike has a flat spot, iron out your carbs first. Then adjust valves if needed.Get rid of the k&n filter if it has one and get paper, your power will come back.
