Default '96 F3 Rear Tire Selection

I am in need of new tires. I was looking at the placard to find stock tire sizes, and it says they are 160's. The previous owner of my bike had installed 170's on there, but I cant find any good 170's. Most of the good tires are sold in 180 as the smallest. Will this tire fit on the rear without having any clearance problems, or rubbing on the chain and swingarm?

I just got bridgestone bt 014 in stock sizes. Have yet to really put them to the test but they seem to hold up pretty good so far. A 180 will fit but I advis againt it. That is what was on my f3 when I got it but now I have a 160 and it seems like a totally different bike. Way better

I have a '98 with a 180 Michelin Pilot 2CT on the rear. It is an awesome tire but just too big for the F3 in my opinion. It does not rub but is super close to and a tight fit. I am in the process of putting a new f4 tail and and with the licence plate tucked under it may be too much tire.

If it is warm (45 minutes or so of hard riding) twisties are manageable but I would feel a lot more comfortable with a 160 or a 170 on the rear rim. I am a pretty big guy (about 6'2" and 250lbs) but I still feel loose on my harder corners. I hope this helps.

Go back to the 160 and you will love the way this bike handles in the corners. These rims alter the shape and profile of a 180. Honda knew what they were doing when they put 160's on this bike. You won't be sorry.

Thank you! The widest you should go is 170. The correct rim width for a 180 is 5.5.

Default Thanks!

Ok, I appreciate your help. Yall think 170's is the widest I can go? I dont really know a whole lot about bikes. Wouldnt you want the 170's over the 160's? 170's are wider, thus providing more grip, right?

In a straight line, your thinking is correct, but not for turning.

A narrower tire allows for a greater angle in and therefore more grip and handling. There's also rotational mass which plays a role and Honda knew what rear tire works best/safest for the bike.

So everyone agrees that the 160 is indeed the best? If so, I would like to buy the Michelin Pilot Sport, but I have yet to find a site that sells them, I think they do make them though.

Default Tire Links?

I would love the Michelin Pilot Sport Tire. I have yet to find that size on any website. Does anybody have a website or know of a website where I could order this tire, as well as the front tire, maybe even in a set?
