96 F3 +Deer = Deal for me?
Hello all, just got back from checking out a 96 F3 that had an unfortunate encounter with a deer at about 70mph. The Plastics are rough of course, but it seems to be pretty sound otherwise. The one issue is the upper fairing stay is cracked (see first two pics) I am wondering if this is as good of a deal as I think. I can get it for under $1000. If it runs like the owner says, I cant think of a reason not to jump. It has a yoshi full system also. Opinions anyone?

Be careful, he says he hit a deer, doesnt mean he actually hit a deer..maybe he hit something harder and messed other things up, could be a decent deal or could be a pain in the ***....if you are on a restricted budget then i guess its ok, and just fix it slowly as u get more money, but if u have money to buy a good one, buy a good one, dont waste ur time dude..

Thanks for the advice, I would be able to feel an issue in the steering head or forks when I test ride it wont I?? Anyone have anything specific I could do to bring out any issues that may be hard to find? I am pretty sure that it was a deer he hit, there is still hair, etc on parts of the radiator. Thanks again for all advice offered!

Check the fork seals for signs of fluid leak. Then look at the bike from the side with the wheel pointing straight. There should be at least a 5-6 inch gap from the front fender the lower cowling. If not, could mean the forks are bent. At the same time, ensure that the handlebars are centered with the tire. Also, look at the frame neck where the frame is welded to it (where the triple clamps go through). If there is any signs of chipped paint or rusting, it could also be a sign that the frame is bent. If a fork is leaking, then it will feel like the bike wants to fall toward the direction of the fork that is leaking due to it having less dampening force than the other. I'm not really sure what a bike with bent in forks feels like, never ridden one.

By the way, if you do get the bike and want to replace the fairing stay, let me know. I've got an F2 fairing stay that is practically brand new that I removed because I made mine into a streetfighter with no need for one. No dents, no bends, paint still looks new. It will fit F3s.
