First of all my name is derek, i go to St. petersburg college and work part time as a cook. I currently own a 2001 Lightning.
I just joined here b/c i will be getting a bike very shortly due to gas prices and the fact that i have always wanted one.
A guy i know is selling his 96 cbr 600 to me for 1500. the catch is, most of the plastic is gone and it has 36k miles. he told me he planed on using it as a stunt bike but instead purchased a new 1200 buell. he said the title is clean and the bike runs great.
My questions!!!!
1. Is that way to many miles for me to consider this bike?
2. Is 1500 a fair price even though alot of the plastic is gone and it has alot of miles?
3. Is this a good bike for me to start on? My other option is a brand new zzr 600.(i dont want to do cause i dont want payments.)
Thanks for any and all help,
Derek

I gave 1,500 for my 95 F3 with 33,000 miles on it and all the plastic was there but it dose have alot of cracks. I wouldn't worry about the miles because if it was serviced good the honda can handle alot more miles than that. My bike was my 1st sport bike and I love it. It could be faster but it dose have plenty of power. Hope this helps you.

I'd maybe offer him 1200 cash & see if he bites. Make sure the frame and rear tail are still straight. There are always fairings on ebay, you could probably score a complete set if patient or mismatch & get it painted. You'll end up probably spending anywhere from $500 - $1000 though. A used left upper will go for $50 - $150 based on condition alone, so it'll quickly add up! Look around, you should be able to find a decent complete bike for $3K or less if you have the cash. If not, go this route & you can make it your own!
