I have heard they are no good for road coz you won't generate enough heat through everyday riding. Free tyres are good though.
Depends on where you live/ride.Here in the South take-offs are fine for the street. They will work fine, just be careful in the rain,as not to pull the bike over too far. They only have enough tread to make them DOT legal, which isn't much.

Actually, race tires have thinner construction than street tires. They heat up faster, but they also burn up faster, meaning they won't last as long as a street tire.

True. Also, race tires are only designed for a single heat cycle, or at most two or three.
False.Race tires' number of heat cycles depends on how hard/fast/much they've been ridden and the brand. For example,an ex-AMA racer turned club racer (WERA,CCS) will use up a tire faster than a yellow plate racer (Novice club racer). That's why the fastest guys on race day go through more tires than anyone else. The number of heat cycles for race tires is between 5 and 20 for maximum grip under race conditions, depending on the brand.

Michelin and Bridgestones have a few more heat cycles than Pirelli.Pirelli's have the shortest life span of all the race tires. If you are going to use these tires, make sure the brands match,so your bike will have a closer front/rear feel.Do not mix-match your tire brands, because the tire construction is way different between the brands.Dunlops are stiff,Pirelli's are very flexable.B'stone and Michelin bounce between those two.

Before anyone here buys anyrace take-offs,make the guy who sells themshow you the "thumbnail test".If he doesn't know what that is,or starts to get pissy, walk away. The thumbnail test is the most accurate way to tellhow much true lifea tire has left.

i have a 180 on my stock rim. Rides and handles just fine. The rear hugger is off, since it wont fit. Tire doesnt hit anything, has plenty of clearance.
