-1/stock rear vs. -1/+2 SPROCKETS!!
Hey guys, so im new to this forum and somewhat new to working on motorcycles (however i have worked on cars all my life, so im not clueless). Ive had my f3 for about 2 years now and am finally getting around to modifying it. Anyway, I need a new chain and rear sprocket, so im going to go ahead and go down a tooth in the front and either: get a new stock rear sprocket or +2 rear sprocket. Ive done some searching on here and havent really been swayed one way or the other. Some people say keeping a stock rear sucks and not worth it, others say that it is awesome. So, which is better (for over all rideing)? I really never come close to my top speed, so i am leaning towards -1/+2, but i also do not want to be constantly shifting... Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Lastly, what size would i want to go with? 520? im not too sure....Thanks guys

If you do more cruising then I would go with the stock rear. I found on my bike that even the 1 tooth up front difference made a 500 rpm difference and made me shift quicker. I don't race so I went back to stock and am happier.
If I can find the trans gearing specs, I can tell you what speed you would be doing in a given RPM with whatever size sprocket you are thinking of. I made a post in the F2 area with the basic math.

Hey, much appreciated. Originally I was going to leave the stock rear sprocket because thats what the guy at the shop suggested, but then after reading on here i became more interested in the -1/+2 . . I wish i could hurry up and decide so that i could order them asap..I just dont want to be disappointed if i keep the stock rear. thanks mike
Also, if anyone else has an opinion, please post it so i have more to base a decision on...THANKS!!

I don't know if you'll like the -1 +2, you will be shifting quick and often. But, if your front sprocket is in decent shape, order it that way and if you don't like it go back to the stock front. The front is the cheapest of the 2 anyway, and the chain won't be to short with the +2 rear. Confused yet?

i was thinking of changing my sprockets as well, seeing as where im in need of a new chain (at the change chain mark). i can't figure out if i get all stock gears or what? im content with my gearing now, even though i hardly ever use the top of 5th or 6th (unless as over drive). also what about 525 or 530 chains.. what about o ring chains or x ring chains? no easy decisions.. all suggestions welcomed. THANKS

I went -1/+3 on my 97 F3 and I love it! I do have to shift quicker and my speedos about 10mph off, but I get a faster take off, and I can still get the bike to 140mph, ( I had to let up cause that is damn fast) It still wanted to go though! I highly recommend it!
