Default Unfamiliar noise; new to the site

What's up? I'm somewhat new to the site, but I've been lurking since I got my bike in November. I got a 94 f2 with around 24K on the clock, bought it from a guy in PA for $2,000 because it had a couple of noises coming from the engine. It was only an exhaust leak and the dreadful CCT. I've replaced the CCT with the ape tensioner, completed the valve adjustment and it ran like a dream for 500 miles or so. Still running good, but I came to a stop/idle today, I could hear a slight pecking noise coming from the upper motor from how it sounded. Not very noticeable. I came home and used the ol' screw driver head and handle trick to semi-diagnose any problems if possible and everything sounded good from the crank to the piston, but when i set the screw driver on top of the motor near the valves and lifters, there was a very quiet, knocking/pecking sound. It only happens at idle, goes away while riding, and it can not be heard all that well with the "naked ear." Any input and help would be appreciated

Oh yeah, I don't think it is the clutch either because engaging and disengaging the clutch makes no difference. And I know it is not a bearing because it does not make any noise when the engine decels, just appears after coming to an idle. Maybe the CCT needs to be adjusted?

I've searched and searched, finally resulting to asking in a thread.

I think you're over-thinking things.

If the noise is that minor then I personally would forget about it until a real problem shows up.

Ride more. Worry less.

Damn, that may be the best advice yet. I do have a tendency to do that, ever since I had a 3000gt and spun rod bearings, threw the timing belt, and put me 3 grand in the hole, it made me into a mechanical wreck.

Thanks bergs and nice sig.

Dayum! Yeah, I'd be a little freaked out too after all that.

Never an issue with asking though because it'll be that one time you don't followed by your wallet lighting on fire.

Welcome to the forum, BTW.

OK, well I was looking to upgrade to a new bike and I got this one up for sale, there are a couple people interested in buying it. When I parked the bike yesterday, that knock was a little louder, but I can by no means identify where it is coming from. On second it sounds as if it is coming from the crankcase, next it sounds like it is coming from the right side of the engine. The knock is def. there, but only on warm engine, and it appears after riding. But there is no loss in power and rides great through all the gears and revs.

If I let out on the clutch, but hold the front break at the biting point, there is no noise. Also, the noise gets drowned out while riding or is just not there, and cannot be heard until the bike comes to a stop and idles. I know these bikes are noisy, but I don't want the new owner to think I ripped them off.

I have taken it to the Honda dealer, and the mechanics there said there was no abnormal noises coming from the engine and the F2's are known to be noisy. They said selling it should be no problem. I am still not convinced, has anyone had this happen? I need some quick input so any would be thankful.

So lemme get this straight...

You posted here and a few of us said "no biggie", so you take it to a factory-authorized repair facility (and, mind you, they got to actually hear the "noises") and even THEY said "no biggie", but wait! You're still not convinced so you come back to the forum a 2nd time asking what we think.

How about this.....since your bike is obviously about to blow up, I'll give you $100 for it and I'll come pick it up at your convenience. Just PM me some contact info and I'll start driving right away.

Deal?

I talked to my parts connection (who is also a great bike mechanic) about a manual CCT, and he said they work good, you just have to adjust them every 500 to 1000 miles, which caused me to decide if mine goes, it's getting another hydraulic. The original one has lasted over 27,000 miles so far, to me that's good enough.
