Default Tire ?s

Hey guys,

I just had my rear tire changed and put the same size back on. Now when I acclerate hard in first gear it wont pull up now. So could the chain being to tight or to loose have a affect on this?

Might be a noob question but I did try the search first.

Thanks.

By pull up do you mean wheelie?

Chain tension should not affect the ability to wheelie, but I recommend having it set at the proper tension rather than too tight/loose.

Did you change either sprocket when you had the tire changed?

if they (stealership etc.) mounted them then they put the recomended tire pressure in which is always alot higher than what i run.

If you're getting wheelspin then Chester is correct, the coating on the tire is actually the release agent they use when moulding the tire to ensure that the tire does not stick to the inside of the mould.

You're lucky you haven't landed on your head not knowing about new tires being slick, take it easy for the first 50-100 miles... Gradually work your way over getting rid of the chicken strips, don't just do it in one big bang.

Read this: Sport Rider Article

The article explains that the coating is a myth from years ago. The "release agent" nowadays is only used on the extreme sides (where the letters are). The rest of the mold is usually teflon coated. There's no residue.

If the tires actually had a coating that had to wear off, how would anybody ever take a bike with new tires to the track? I've hit a track with brand new Michelin 2CT's, no warmers, two laps to warm up the tires (that's about 5 miles) and then worn all the chicken strips off in 5 laps dragging knees and even the fairings.

Same kind of tire? Different compound? Pressure different?
