Default Time for some housekeeping..

Hey guys. As the end of winter approaches I've finished hibernating and finally have space to do some work on the bike. Buddy of mine is letting me keep her in his garage. I've noticed a lot of little rust spots that bother me, mainly around welds where the paint has cracked so I'm gonna start tackling those. I pulled off the rear fender and found this-

Looks like there's a little more work to be done than i thought . Anyway, I'm gonna head off to the hardware store and pick up some sandpaper and other rust-treatment related items.
Anyone have any advice for cleaning up these spots? I haven't ever treated rust before, so I was planning on just sanding it clean then painting it with some sort of rust stop paint. Thanks guys

Wire brushes or rust removal pads that attach to drills work great. Once u get it all off than prime and paint. Some areas need to be done by hand but that sucks.

Yeah I picked up some wire brushes, sandpaper and primer. I have a dremel so that should help with some areas. I just wasn't sure if there was some sort of treatment I should apply to the spots after I clean them, or if the paint will be sufficient. Anyway thanks for the quick response TooBroke. I'll let you know how it goes

They make some rust inhibiting paint. Rustolium comes to mind.

Has the bike been laid down or dropped?

Being the right side, that looks like brake fluid from the rear reservoir has leaked onto the swingarm causing what you see there.

I don't believe the bike has been laid down, but I see what you're saying about the location in regards to the rear resevoir, but with that rear fender on there it pretty much covers all that. nevertheless, I began tackling the spot with some 150 grit sandpaper. might have to get something a little heavier. Does good on the surface, but since that spot is so big it's started to pit a little. Don't think it's bad enough to compromise the structure, but still a pain in the ***. so here's where i stand now-

Thanks. Pretty much figuring it out as I go. Think I've decided I want to make her into a streetfighter though. The concept keeps growing and growing on me
