Carb cleaner WILL NOT eat your cables, although I prefer brakleeen. It does a pretty good job at removing gum, varnish, and the scum that white grease and wax lubricants tend to leave over time. I haven't found the best lube yet, but white grease and/or wax chain lube isn't it, and brakleen is a pretty good cleaner.

The stuff I use is pretty awesome... I've actually taken to using it on door locks as well. Work better than new.

I tend to use the lube as cleaner... just undo the throttle grip, remove the cables... attach the cable luber and spray in bursts (stops preasure getting too high and it popping open and putting lube all over the dash)... slide the cable in and out a few times... it should feel like almost nothing. Paper towel up any drips from the engine side... Re-attach.. done.

exactly the same thing that mine was doing. I had to space the end weight out with a washer and it is perfect now. i just copy and pasted meeson01 post because i dont know how to quote.

Check that your throttle cables are routed so that they are not taking any hard turns, they like to be as straight as possible.

Also make sure nothing is crushing or pinching them.

If you have aftermarket hand grips you may need to cut them down to fit (if they are too long they will rub on the bar end as other people have mentioned)

The right product costs $15 and lasts a long time... I'd really recommend using it instead.
