Stripped Oil Drain Threads - Need Oil Pan
I have done a gazillion oil changes on my CBR, and other bikes over the years. Yesterday I did an oil change and the drain plug felt a little strange as I took it out to drain the engine oil. When I went back to tighten, it felt strange and the the dreaded happened. The threads are stripped.
I am trying to source a used oil pan with good threads. If I can't find one I will have to remove the current one and have the hole re-threaded.
Anyone have a lead on a used oil pan for 91-94 engine?

There are a few options you may want to consider before replacing the pan.
1.Helicoil or timesert the hole.
2. Oversized self tapping plug.
3. Get a new drain plug thats just a little bigger and retap the hole to that thread size.
All can be done on the bike with the proper tools and know how.
Did you inspect the theads to make sure that it's the pan threads that are messed up and not just the plug?

1. I was thinking of helicoil or timesert but to do so I would like to remove the current oil pan to avoid any shavings form getting into the engine and to not have to work under the bike upside down. Sure it can be down with the oil pan on but I have a feeling I will make a bad situation worse. If I am going to remove the oil pan to do so, a new gasket will have to be installed. If I have the oil pan off, may as well swap it with a used oil pan. Seems it will be a better/cheeper option.

You don't need to worry about metal getting inside if you leave the pan on. Its on the bottom, so any shavings will come out. You can coat the tap with grease to help them stick to the tap and flush it out by adding a little oil in when you're done just to be sure. The plugs are a harder material, but they do get worn and have issues. It's weird that it would happen, but it does. Ive seen it many times before. It's worth a look. As far as working room, jack the bike up. Got rafters and a come along/tie down?
I've got at least 2 down in my basement.
I know there is one on a spare engine and I'm fairly sure I've got another off the last engine I parted out.

I only have F2 parts, so I'm 100% sure it fits your bike. And I'm 99% sure the threads are good. I'll check and take some pics when I get home tonight.
