I just replaced my sprockets and chain.
First off get an O-ring chain.
Second off I wanted more low end (for speedy acceleration) I went -1 tooth on the front and +2 on the rear.
And last but not least, I paid 150 for the RK kit (brand name) and had no problem at all installing it. Took about 45 minutes.

O ring would be original but not the best. I paid $100 for my chain and sprocket kit with stock tooth count buy it was available in different configurations. the better chain types with sprockets are in the $150 category as are the 520 or 525 conversions. I have found eBay to have the best pricing for these kits. One thing to look out for is that some sellers will send you a chain without the pressed master link and since some are more generic chains it is hard to find the link.
When I got my kit it came with a KMC chain that I found was rated very high on tensile strength but it had a clip style master. Haven't had a problem, but they aren't recommended for high speed and I have not been able to find the rivet style master locally. I had a -1 on the front but went back to stock and notice that I like it better this way. Before it always seemed that my bike was revving too quick. Now it seems like smoother power delivery and the bike still gets up and goes when I want it to.

It shouldnt as the speed sensor is located on the front wheel (rotary cable).
Anyway, I too would like to get peoples feedback on the -1/+2 combo, in terms of what does it actually do. As I understand it you get more power in the lower speeds (faster acceleration), but less top-speed. Correct?
Are there any downsides to this (besides the obvious reduced top-speed)?
Will this combo also make the bike more throttle sensitive at lower speeds, so you get less throttle accuracy (or perhaps more)?

Some people do, some don't. A 520 chain and sprockets is lighter will help the bike accelerate better, but a 520 chain will wear out faster. Same with aluminum sprockets, again lighter but wear out faster.
If it's for a track or race bike then sure, most people go to 520. For the street, I don't think it's worth it.
