Default Some work before spring hits!

Hey guys, just want to say I am somewhat new to motorcycles but have been reading a lot on this site, just gotta a couple of questions for ya regarding some things to do before spring hits:

I have a 92 F2 with 43000 km's on it,

1. I want$ to replace the stock air filter and replace with a K&N air filter, will I need to do any work on anything else for this to happen or is it just a simple switch?

2. I am planning on changing spark plugs, any big difference between them?

3. I am planning on cleaning the carbs, does this change in the way you would go about it if you have a different pipe (mine being a yoshi) as in do I have to re-jet after carb cleaning?

4. How hard is it to clean the carbs reallistically if you had a decent amount of knowledge with hands on projects?

Thank you and I appreciate any input, I hope you guys have a good new year!

1. Simple switch
2. Stick with the factory honda NGK plugs
3. Cleaning the carbs = cleaning the carbs
4. It's easy esp if ur good with hands on projects.

Someone wanna go over the basics of cleaning carbs? I've never done it and I'm not really too sure what's goin on in there. But before I even think about doin it, will it make that big of a difference? just FYI mine's a 94 with 17,000 on it. thanks!

Search the How to and General Tech forums, there's a lot of stuff in there.

Thanks g32bturbo for the quick response. I was hoping it was that simple for most of them.

By cleaning I meant the complete disassembly and cleaning and reassembly, does this still apply as in no re jetting and only a simple carb sync?

I heard the stock paper filters are the best for our bikes. The K&N will tend to lean it out too much..especially if you haven't rejetted yet. If you keep the carbs together then you won't have to resync them. You're not really trying to take apart the whole thing..just clean up or replace the jets with bigger ones. Make sure your floats/seat/valve are in good condition and the passages and needle are clean and free of debris.

ok so if I were to take the carbs off and simply clean them, put them back on no carb sync and no rejetting? If that is it than this will be a hopefully easier job.

The K&N also lets more dirt particles through than a paper filter, a lot of people will recommend the stock paper filter... The K&N adds no noticeable power either as far as I know.

As for your question about the carbs, clean and sync them but don't change the jetting unless you change the way the motor flows air... Free flowing exhaust and air filter will require you to flow more fuel to keep the air/fuel ratio where it needs to be.

If it runs good now (not rich or lean) you won't need to change the jetting.
