Default Shiny Rotors

My front rotors are becoming more mirror-like as the weeks go by. I wish to improve them but im flat broke at the moment (student). I do almost 300 miles a week on my bike fyi. I also use the rear brake alot aswel now to aid slowing.

I bled the brakes but didnt notice much of a difference. Had the idea of taking sandpaper to the rotors to try take off some of the shine. I didnt know if that would make the braking worse so here I am asking.

I dont ride fast and I also brake a long way from junctions if I can. Im trying to get the MPG past 60 (getting 55mpg atm).

I'm in the same boat. I am just gonna use 220 grit sand paper to rough up the rotors as needed

Scuff the rotors with sandpaper (both sides) and if your pads still have life left in them, gently scuff them also, or just replace.

Be sure to "bed in" new pads properly.

When scuffing the pads, lay your sandpaper down on something flat and rub the pads in a figure 8 motion on the paper rather than holding the pads and scuffing them in the air by hand.

This just ensures that the surface will be sanded evenly.

My pads still had usable life on them, so I will be holding on my new pads until I replace the rotors/pads together. I sanded the rotors and bled the brakes, works like a champ

Why replace the rotors? Unless they are worn down below spec, or have massive gouges in them you don't need to replace them.

Stock rotors should last forever.
