the way the weight is distributed counts for a lot.
think about where the rider sits - between the wheels, relatively centered with a slight rearward bias. A passenger is being put directly over the rear wheel. Almost none of that weight will be on the front (until you brake).
almost any bike can be ridden 2-up. go on youtube and watch ANY video of a motorcycle in Taiwan. There are families of 4 hanging off 50cc scooters. seriously.
your suspension definitely won't feel the same w/ the extra 100 lbs, but it won't be begging for mercy either. proper tire pressures are the most important thing.
