To remove the old chain, you can either grind off the flared master-link pins & remove the master link & the chain will be apart...or simply take your dremel & cut the chain apart.

Then install a new chain using proper chain tool kit. The master-link pins will have to be flared to factory spec for safety.

the new isnt put together, and the old one has to be cut/masterlink flares grinded, or clip removed. Removing the swing arm wont do it.

the new one is a used OEM one that is uncut. back tire is removed. need to do this without taking the chain apart.

Remember in the movie Zoolander, when Owen Wilson's character Hansel, removed his underwear without taking off his pants? Well, if you can do THAT, then you can make this happen!! LOL. Anyway, you will definitely have to remove the swingarm.

If it was me...I would exchange for a split chain, split the old one on the bike, join them, pull the new one through using the old. Fit split link. A 20min job instead of what could be a can of worms. When was the last time the swing arm bearings were changed, they could end up all over the garage floor etc. That could be for starters. Its up to you I know, the above scenareo is what would happen to me. Best of luck however you do it mate !

Cut old chain off............then cut a link out the replacement and install a master link as described in an earlier post.

Change time 30 minutes, take off swing arm will equal several hours providing you have the special tools to take the nut off

Good luck Chuck

He stated two things that some are missing.

A. The new chain is not new. It is used. I wouldn't introduce a new master link to a chain that might already have some stretch in it. Plus why buy the master link when u don't need to?

B. He already has the rear wheel off the bike. Swing arm doesn't require anything special to remove. One bolt on the shock. One bolt on the pivot. Would take 10 extra minutes, tops.
