Default rear tire removal?

alright last time i rode my bike which was right before winter i think it was in november. i pulled my bike into my drive way and when i turned off the bikei heard a hissing sound and low and behold my rear tire had a sliver of metal sticking in it. i wass pissed!!!! butat the same timeglad it didnt shred while i was at 75mph on the highway. anyway so i thought since it was gettin cold i would put my bike up till spring (febuary sounds good). now im gonna buy a new rear tire im thinking a MPP but not sure yet. everyone else seems to like them. so instead of trailering my bike to a shop im gonna buy a rear stand and take the wheel off and bring it in to the shop. my question is has anyone taken the rear wheel off themselfs? is it hard ? anything speacial i should know? oh is there anything i should know about new tires no the have to be worn in or are they great right out of the shop?

New tires are slippery.

Take it easy on the first few rides, gradually leaning further each time, then you're good to go.
