You'll need to go to a radical jet kit and do a lot of tuning to get your bike to run properly... I would not bother!

I shortened my intake snorkels and it ****ed the bike up, so I put it back to normal.

I'd leave it just how it is

Do not modify the airbox, you'll eff the whole works up. These carburetors have vacuum operated slides. If you mess with the amount of air pressure it will completely screw how they function. Also, I highly doubt there is enough restriction in the airbox setup to hinder how the engine runs under almost all jetting scenarios. You stand nothing to gain and will only lose because the bike at best will run like crap, if at all.

Before you try to squeeze more power out of it (waste of time and cash on a bike of this vintage), you should upgrade the suspension and brakes, unless you're looking to drag race (yawn).

Hey, no worries, sorry if I came off sounding condescending. It's not that you can't do that with other bikes, its just the way this one was designed. It's not going to be very forgiving if you change the internal air pressure of the box. If nothing was operated by vacuum off of the air box, you could probably change it however you wanted and only add a proportionate amount of fuel through jetting to make it run right. And as for how fast its going to be, it's definitely going to be slower than your other bikes, but thats the difference between the 600,750, and 1300, so its to be expected.
And yeah, you should probably take it out for a few rides before you decide if its fast enough for you or not. If it isn't then flip it. Take the money you made on the deal and put it towards a bike you'll be happier with.
