Default To pipe or not to pipe.

hey you guys. this forum has been alot of help with answering my never ending bike problems. im new to riding and cant get enough of it. well a few weeks ago my clutch basket was warped or something and caused my bike to slowly move while the clutch was in. this turned out to be very expensive but i found a complete parts bike on Craigslist for a hundo. i swapped the whoel engine this weekend and fired that baby up. runs FANTASTIC! CL find of the decade. well as i was putting it back together i tested it without the exhaust, just the headers. my god it was the sexiest sound ive ever heard. just straight race bike. i was wondering if this is bad for the bike at all. i noticed that my revs were really responsive to my throttle input with my exhaust like this compare to with it. anyone have any input?

Yeah, you will love it too. Without a pipe you will be down like 5-10hp. You'll be running lean all the time and nuke your exhaust valves. If you like that open pipe sound, get a free flowing pipe and a jet kit.

ya don't do that. i did and ran it for a day and then it quit on me halfway up a hill. didn't **** nothing up but i had to do a complete teardown and clean everything because it was all soaked. my plugs were wet and everything. when i did get it to start it sounded terrible and i had to hold the gas just right for about ten minutes while it burned that **** off. worst day of my life. i thought i had ****ed my bike.

sorry jnicola the only thing broken on the parts bike was the fork. it was plowed into the side of some car. i have a ton of other parts if interested. i was planning on keeping my slip on anyways because id rather not deal with the consequences(police and neighbors). i was just wondering if it would hurt the bike. apparently it does but i don't really see why.

It'll throw your mixture off, and cause you to run lean. This can lead to burning your valves and other issues. Rejetting your carbs to richen the mixture can compensate for this. Also your exhaust timing isn't adjustable, so I beleive to truly take advantage of straight pipes, you'd have to figure out the ideal timing, and put in an appropriate cam.

Anyways, I don't NEED forks, I was just hoping you had some 94' F2 forks for me to use
