Opposite Shift Pattern: Why?
So I noticed that some people purposely modify or buy shift kits to reverse their shift pattern. Like 1 up, 2-6 down. I'm wondering what the reasoning behind this is. I think the MotoGP bikes may have these shift patterns too. Isn't it confusing? My friend tells me it gives you more lean angle.
It is easier to shift down than pull up in a deep hard corner, makes it a little faster to shift to the next gear. Most track and race bikes have this swap-over for better setting up for corners. It really isn't that too confusing when you get the hang of it.
+1 to that - its called race pattern and saves time on track plus you can fit a quickshifter easier
Also, you shouldn't/wouldn't need to down shift going through a left turn, but you might need to up shift, so by switching the shift pattern your toes are on top of the shifter to shift up through the gears and not between the shifter and the road which is safer.
