Default One Great Summer

Hi guy's

Havent been on here for a while, hope you all had a good summer.

So, I have now taken mine off the road and decided to give the engine some love, so Im going to rebuild the engine. 52,000 on the clock and a few rattles have appeared, I want to take it to santapod and see what 1/4 mile drag I can get.
Got some cash saved for this so time to tidy the garage and clear room for the build.

My summer has been great, have ridden all around my county had some fun racing on the roads (opps did I just say that???) been to bike evenings down on paignton strip in devon.

since the rebuilt the bike rides well, just cant wait till get on with the project, will post more! (With PICS)

Great stuff Benjy,

I love a good rebuild - especially with a purpose in mind.

Subscribed.

Cheers, SB

Default colour code bearing

Hi guys
I ve completely stripped the engine down to its pants. Now i,m at the stage of buying the shell bearings. Now on the genuine site the bearings are colour coded and also the book is referencing these colours. How do i find out what colour goes where? Has anyone gone as far as this before? Pics will follow. Help/advice would be great.

It's just a matter of determining the ID/OD of the main journals in the crankcase, and the main journals on the crank, so you buy the correct bearing sizes... what is the code on the left upper crankcase, above where the crankshaft rotates, and what is the code printed on the crankshaft end weight?

Yup, they sure do - your journal bearings will need to be, from left to right:

Yellow - Green - Yellow - Yellow - Yellow

Obviously, with 5 parts, this is the selection for your main journal bearings.

For identifying your con-rod bearings, you'll need the number from each of your con-rods, from left to right... they will each have either a 1 or 2 stamped on them, right where the rod cap meets the rod beam.

Well, as the saying goes, there's no replacement for displacement, so the obvious would be to punch out the cylinders to 66mm, for a total displacement of 618cc, or to 67mm, for 637cc (stock is 65mm) - this will of course require oversize pistons and rings, which will probably run between $700 and $900 (U.S. Dollars).

Another popular option is to replace your exhaust cam with your intake cam, and procure an F4i intake cam to run as your intake cam - if I did this, I would probably get slotted cam sprockets while I was at it.. bear in mind that with increased displacement and bigger cams, you'll need more fuel, so bigger mains, higher position needles, and larger pilot jets would probably be needed as well.
