Default Oil Light, after oil change

Hi,

I just changed my oil and filter on my 94 600f2. I put about 3.7 qts. of T6 5w40 synthetic in. When I started the bike up the oil light stayed on. I only ran it for about 20 second before I turned it off.

Does it usually take longer than that after an oil change?

The top end sounds like its not getting oil.

I have no leaks, double checked the oil while it was level.

I thought it might have been the oil so i put 10w40 valvoline motorcycle oil, started it again and same thing

any thoughts?

It most likely is your oil, did you use full synthetic? If before the oil change everything was okay then its your oil, or your oil pump decided to give out when you changed the oil. Take a look at your oil pressure switch and check if its not grounding to something.

Everything worked fine before I put it away, I was just getting it ready for spring changing the oil, and brakes.

Yes full synthetic

noob question where is that switch?

Well I changed the oil again with Valvoline 10w40, none synthetic. The light still didn’t turn off, so I twisted the oil filter off started it, oil started pumping out so I shut it off topped off the oil again.

Started it back up the light turned off.

Airlock. I`ve heard it happen, apparently pretty common on some Kawasakis. They usually twist the filter so that it barely touches the mating surface, start the engine and as soon as oil starts coming past the seal, tighten the filter.

Could have been an air lock. I've gotten into the habit of prefilling my oil filters. My oil light usually goes out after a couple seconds max.

I've also seen bad filters do this too. Try another filter. I prefer Honda oem or K&N. Stay away from fram and such.

It is not your oil. I've never seen oil stop being oil.

I see your in MN, me too. It's time to ride...as soon as my airbox arrives.
