oil in the coolent?

Default oil in the coolent?

Hi guys, still new here and seem to be asking alot of questions, but I need your help again with my cbr project.. when I got the bike, the rad and coolant was stripped from the bike, been running it for a couple of weeks now, and there is oil in the coolent, which was fresh a couple of weeks ago, it's not mixing in the engine oil, and the bike runs fine, it dosn't over heat or run hot, is there any where else in the system, where I could be getting a mix? or head gasket maybe?

First thing that comes to my mind is head gasket, but maybe I am missing something. I am tired today, can't think :P

Places to check are head gasket, water pump impellar oil seal, and oil cooler o-rings.

Ok I'm pretty sure it's not the head gasket, as the engine oil is clear with no mix at all, and the bike runs very well, tell me more about this water pump impellar seal, it sounds like this could be the problem, would this allow oil into the coolant but not the other way.

Either the oil cooler or water pump impellar seal could leak oil into the coolant and not the opposite, it depends on which liquid is under more pressure in that area.

If the oil is pushing harder on the seal it will flow through and push past the coolant.

The water pump impellar "oil seal" is located either inside the water pump, or where the water pump is pressed into the block.

The water pump is located near the front sprocket, you will need to remove the water pump to check the condition of the seals.

A new water pump assembly can be purchased for approx. $150 and will include seals if I recall correctly.

The oil cooler is bolted to the front of the block, vertically, and has o-rings to seal/separate the oil and coolant.

I would advise replacing the o-rings on the oil cooler, and as preventative maintenance replace the water pump.

Ok thanks for the info, but it's all gone **** up tonight, the bikes now running very hot, and boiling up the coolant, so I think it's now the head gasket, bike still runs well, but on the road boils up straight away.
oh well game over, think she will have to be sold as a rolling project..!

Head gasket is EASY dude, don't give up on it.

if you haven't overheated the bike just replacing the head gasket should not be a problem to do yourself

on the other hand, if you do decide to sell it i might be interested depending on location (and price of course)

Hi I have decided to sell, as I have lost interest now, it's on ebay item 190324620464. I was hoping to get around £400 as that would cover my cost. It's been on a couple of days now, and already upto that, so I may get alittle more, but will see how it goes, you get alot of messers on ebay.
