Personally, I believe people put too much importance on what oil to put in their bikes and not enough importance on how often they change their oil.

Synthetics are fine if you don't mind paying twice as much for the same amount of protection for the amount of time the oil is in your crankcase. If you want to go 15,000 mi. between oil changes then I'd recommend synthetic.

Your best bet is to run the slippery stuff in the plastic bottles and change your oil every 3K mi. or less. The only thing I'd warn against is paraffin based oils like Shaffer's. JMHO & YMMV.

I use synthetic Rotella-T (T6, it's a blue bottle) that you can find at Walmart. Every resource I've found online says it's pretty good stuff.

If 10W is thin, you can try 20W....synthetic or not, don't think it's good for the bike running too many hard miles between oil change.

I would say follow your owners manual specification.

Using Amsoil or Royal Purple makes us more handsome then chicks will be hitting on us.

Using Semi Synthetic will get us the job or a pay raise.

Using conventional, girlfriend will love you more, since your are spending less on bike, more on her..

Motorcycle oil needs to be utilized here. Car oils have pariffins in them that can mess up the clutch in bikes. 10W-40 is recommended whether you use synthetic or not. You will need about 4.5 qts & a filter.

Rotella T6 here for the last several oil changes. Found a deal on 3 gallons for $18 once, so I stocked up. I use Wix filters for the Nissan VQ35 3.5L V6 (350Z, Altima, Maxima etc...)
