Check it out:

Octane explained

This will tell you everything you need about fuel octane ratings and even the new E85 fuels.

Too many posts for me to read all of them, so if this is a repeat, I'm sorry. Use 92+ octane in your F2 to prevent pre-ignition. Octane boosters raise your octane by 1 point. That does not make 90 octane 91 octane. It makes 90 octane 90.1 octane. Trust me, I've researched this. You're better off buying higher octane gas than buying octane booster. Waste of money. If it was that good, they'd sell it at the drag strips instead of selling racing fuel.

i honestly think that you should run what the manufacture recomends.. on a f2 they sug 91 octane.. thats what i run at least and the price difference is minima .. we are ojnly dealing with a couple of gallons. not a 35 gallon suburban tank..

the higher the octane the harder it is for the fuel to burn
that is all that octance does
prevent detonation
high compression pistons will cause low octane gas to explode just by the compression
the higher octane resists this detonation until the spark is fired

i built turbo charged cars before i decided to go into bikes
i spent years researching octane, knocking, and ignition control

go to a car website like www.2gnt.com
many many articles posted on 87 vs 93 octane

also try this bike site

the guy that wrote this aka LordDuckHunter has forgotten more about motorcycles than most people will ever know
