Noise in neutral
I have a strange noise when my bike is in neutral, but it only happens when I don't have the clutch pulled in. With the lever out it sounds like a grinding, vibrating kind of noise. Also, in 1st and 2nd at low RPMs there is a knocking or popping sound coming from the front of the bike. I know it's coming from the motor because I leaned down to listen and it was obvious. This question was posted by someone in the 929 forum, but there were 2 replies: normal noise and serious problem. Has anyone else had this problem before with an F2)? I am scared to ride now. Any help would be great!
When in doubt, go to the dealer. Hard to figure out online... is your chain clean? They can make a lot of popping noise which you might only be able to hear at low speed and rpm. Same for wheel bearings.
my f2 used to make the same sound but it has gone away now. I was thinking it was the clutch and the way i was shifting but now it does not do it anymore. Since then i have lubed the chain and changed the oil and also learned to **** better :P but i don't know what the problem was but it has gone away
Well, I cleaned and lubed my chain today and the popping noise in 1st and 2nd went away. I still have that grinding sound in neutral though. I am thinking of taking the clutch apart to look at the plates. Do you guys think it's wise to buy a used clutch assembly? There's one on eBay right now: Any thoughts? I would post a link to it, but I don't know how. If you want to check it out just search for cbr600 assembly and it's easy to find from there. I figure it might be worth a try for $35. thanks in advance for replies
My bike does the same thing. In neutral, with the clutch in, no noise, but with the clutch out, i get some sort of rattling/vibrating noise from the engine compartment. This is at a dead stop. It's not my CCT, because I have an adjustable one. I think this might be either something inherrent to F2's, because my bike rides/shifts great and it has 32K miles on it. But, there could be some worn out springs in the clutch assembly. Guess I'll find out when the thing takes a crap!
The noise you can hear in the clutch is the thrust bearing common in al early CBRs & nothing to worry about. When you disengage the clutch (pull the lever) does the noise go?
The other noise from the engine could be a whole range of thing can you be more specific.

Hey,
I've sort of been replying about this in different threads, but I also have a knocking in my engine at low rpm. It's really annoying! Anyone with answers!?!?!
Also, I have the same grinding noise when I let the bike into neutral.. super annoying as well..
