Default naked chics

My regulator gets hot really fast. I think my bike eats regs. Could this be a wiring problem?

The regulator is supposed to get hot. What makes you think yours is bad? Take it off the frame and see if it has an aluminum backing on it. That is supposed to help dissipate the heat.

My old reg. was not charging the battery. So i got a new one, I put it on and didn't test it. Got home my bettery was fried and my reg. had a little lump on the back where it looked like it got to hot. Tested that reg it was pushing way to much (15-20v). So i don't know if it was a faulty reg or if my bike is just eating them. So i sent that one back they sent me another being that it may have just been the reg. I put the new one on and tested it seems to be working alright it just gets really hot fast. But my head light is burnt out so i don't know if that would matter much. SO, YEAH?

Well, as they said the r/r is supposed to get hot. Its job is to turn extra power produced by the stator into heat... but nothing should melt or anything like that. I'd fix the headlight and try again... or take it to a dealer that knows whats up. They could test the charging system for you.

The reg unit changes ac current to dc current, so if your stator is kicking out to much for the reg to deal with that could fry your reg. In other words it could be a faulty stator.

Unfair link though...
