I have rewired it and got a brand new battery, all I get is backfire.

You'll have to give us a bit more. We are good here, but not that good.

Did it run before you rewired it?
Why did you rewire it?
What did you rewire, the harness, plug wires, coils, something else?
What color is it?

 

I re wired my rectifier and stator wire set up because it was done poorly and had bad connections it did start once

 

Has the bike been sitting for a long time?
Is it possible the carbs are plugged?
Does it help if you use full choke?
If you were using full choke, is it possible it's flooded, do you smell gas at the exhaust pipe?
