True, carelessness could definitely hurt you on a narrow road such as this, but, carelssness on the part of some fool in another vehicle could have done this, too... or a mechanical failure of some sort.

All it takes on a road like this, or any other for that matter, is some sorostitute on her phone, an idiot texting while driving, or any other stupid, distracted-driver type, to be on YOUR side of the paint, and ruin your day, your bike, your body, or even your life!

It's happened to me before, and I've prevented countless thousands of other instances over the last 20 years, just predicting the stupid moves of stupid drivers, and being fortunate enough to evade them... one of those very rare times I was caught in one of those situations where the environment was just right, or just wrong, as it were, for me to not be able to get out of it, and there was the faithful moronic-idiot-douchebag to change lanes into me, and put me on the ground...

Sorry... when I re-count that incident, and a lot of the vividly remembered close calls, caused by fools in cars, that shouldn't be permitted to drive ANYTHING, I get to ranting!

Last year, in my town of only about 400,000 people, there were two incidents, just that I know of, where another motorist/pedestrian lost their LIFE, because some idiot was not paying attention, and ran a red light, or stop sign! I'd hate to know how many accidents/injuries/deaths actually did occur in that year, as a result of reckless or careless driving. This crap seriously PI$$ES ME OFF!! Either of those two killed that I did know about, could have been me, my mother, my sister, my friend!

I've said it before... if I could get every individual to say just one little mantra, everytime they get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, and put the ignition key in, whether it's a truck, a Ferrari, or a flat-busted econobox, runnin' on two cylinders, it would be:
"I have the power to send someone to their grave with this vehicle, If I lose focus today, just ONCE, I could KILL somebody - my carelessness could make me a MURDERER"
OK, rant finished!

True, True. Unfortunately, technology/modern devices are getting more and more seductive by the year. People aren't going to put them down, even if it means they could kill someone because of it. The idea of Texting while driving being a problem is an understatement. I can count 5/10 cars that pass me at an intersection, on my walk home from work, that have drivers distracted by their phones. It's an epidemic. A huge problem that kills hundreds/thousands each year. Sometimes there's just no stopping man's downward spiral. We are a creature of habit and this is one I don't believe will be broken. You can only sit and watch, be safe when you cross paths. I haven't had any dangerous close calls with motorists yet, mostly because I'm aware as possible, while still being able to see and ride safely. I pan side to side several times when nearing an intersection, looking once, twice, for any cars approaching from as far to the side as I can see. The times a person pulled or walked out in front of me, I saw it coming far in advance and was able to stop safely. This is something I learned from decades of biking in the streets. You MUST be able read drivers body/car language before you cross paths. Pan left and right, 180 degrees constantly in heavy traffic with lots of intersections. Read drivers. You CAN predict what they are likely to do before they do it. This is something I think motorcyclists, don't develop enough. Specially the young ones. They're too anxious to show off.

Well, I'll tell you what. I bought my bike from a friend at work. He had it for over five years. He bought it from some morons that thought they were stunters. Eventually, I'm guessing, they got skinned up enough that they decided to sell what was left of the bike before it was worth literally nothing.

My friend planned to rebuild the bike and make a nice little rocket to ride around on. He bought a $600 set of fiberglass body parts and began his restoration. I'm not sure exactly what happened but after he bought a bunch of parts, most of them very nice parts, he basically stopped. One reason is that he bought a brand new Z1000 Kawasaki. I'm guessing after he bought that bike he just decided not to go forward with his restoration. The bike sat for over 4 years, survived a big tree falling on the little metal shed it was in during a big wind storm and spent several years in a pile under a blue tarp.

I got the bike for $300. It had what looked and acted like black strap molasses in the crank case. Every thing was scratched, scuffed bent or otherwise doinked up in some manner. The frame is straight however. Don't ask me how that happened.

I've rebuilt every thing but the brakes so far, they work just fine, I fit up the body work, put the Gilles Tooling clip ons on it and otherwise made the bike mechanically sound. I've put a lot more parts on it than mentioned but it's not necessary to list in this post.

After some carb issues and a little trouble with spark plugs the engine runs just fine.

Case in point. I ran my F2 up the road last night and really got on it to see if the old gas had any negative effect on it's performance. It didn't. BUT, I forgot to take my cell phone out of my hoody pocket and lost my phone on the quick blast. How did I lose my phone? Well it seems my little CBR likes to raise the front end when you speed shift into second gear!!

I LOVE MY LITTLE CBR!!!!

Default great build to the engine

I hit 44,000 on my 91 CBR600f2ss then an oil journel to cylinder #2 failed toasted rod bearings and a crank. i rebuilt it and runs like a champ again with 2,000 miles on the rebuild. =)

Nice. How many miles did you put on the bike when you got it, before the failure? Or did you put all miles on the bike? Are one of those people that pretty much drives it real hard all the time? Or do you generally baby it?

I would also be interested in how many miles were already on the bike when you got it, as that kind of failure is extremely rare, when an F2 has been well maintained!

Did the oil turn to tar at some point? I don't see how else that could happen.

it went at 45500 i bought it at 38k and i rode it hard while i had it i just sold it this past thursday with 48000 I changed the oil every 2500 miles it was a very clean and seemingly well maintained bike. I believe it was what i caused myself doing a stand up wheelie (on a closed runway) was only up there for 1/2 mile. set it down and road it back to the other side had a nice clank from the rod bearing being fried wearing into the crank as well. had fresh oil at this time and was filled to the correct level. Mixed with the higher rpms i was running -2 rear sprocket at that time at a speed off 55ish. I still have the old crank rod and bearing that went to crap. only failed on one Cylinder.
