Default how much should i pay for...

Hey all, I've been reading some posts and it seems like there are a lot of CBR enthusiasts out there. I may become one shortly, but quite frankly this is my first bike and I need some help with all aspects of it, but especially buying.

I'm wondering how muchthis bike is worth. It's a 1992 CBR 600 with 27k miles. Has had multiple owners and been dropped 5-10 times. He says it runs great, but I will have a mechanic check it out before I buy. Also, it has new tires, a new battery, and a new chain. So, what's a fair amount to offer?

Is there anything else I should find out about the bike before I sign the check? Should I have any reservations about getting a 15 year old bike?

Thanks in advance

mileage is a little high, dropped that many times[:@]..check the forks and frame for straightness.. i would give him 800.00...

my only deterent would be that it was dropped that many times..

you are in illinois check out craigslist.. i have been looking for another bike and there are a lot of F3's on there with 7-10,000 miles for under $3,000.-- there is a 98 F3 track bike that i am dealing with a guy for and its got 6,000 miles and hes asking 1,600.00 fully safety wired and a extra set of rims and tires and a extra set of fairings..

Welcome. I think you have picked a great bike for a beginner bike...the 600 F2s and F3s are not too raw, but have plenty to keep you interested as you gain experience.

That being said...aside from the mileage, the problems that bike could have with the frame, swing arm, forks...etc....may not be good for learning to ride on. If nothing else the bike you described sounds like a good parts bike, or a bike to put a stunt sprocket on and beat the crap out of (some more). You should be able to find a better deal...and what you want is something in the 1800-2800 dollar range...you should get a well kept bike with mileage 14K-24K for that price range.
