Help with micron exhaust
hello....in another thread I explained a problem I had with my brakes and as a side note said that I had an exhaust leak as well............before I take the full exhaust off I would like to know what the springs are for on the header pipes...I am hoping that they hold the downtubes to a separate flange that presses against the exhaust gasket. The exhaust system is stainless steel but the four flange parts that press agains the gaskets are rotten then there is the plate that the bolts go through to attach the pipe to the engine then it looks as if the downtubes just fit over these stubs and are held in place with the springs...if this is the case then all I need is the 4 flanges...if not then its the set of downtubes even though they are in great condition from the mounting plate downwards.....anyone out there know if the parts are separate or all in one???..........................cheers for reading

RE: Help with micron exhaust
I'm trying to envision what you're talking about here, but posting some pix would be great. From my experience with exhausts, the header pipes are connected to a single flange that bolts into the side of the head. Sounds to me like you might need a new header. Post pix if you can and you'll probably get a more definite answer.

RE: Help with micron exhaust
ya man, i have a 93 F2 and as far as for mine, there is just one flange on the headers and then there are, i think 6 studs that screw into the block, and then the flange goes on those and there are nuts holding the flange to the block. it was that way with my stock exhaust and my 2 bros. exhaust. sorry that this doesn't help much, but pics would prolly help us know what your talkin about better!

RE: Help with micron exhaust
ok guy's thanks for replying...I have removed the collars and phoned micron (they are here in the uk) and they are sending me 4 new flange collars for £5 each. one of the ones I removed was full of tiny holes...the downtubes on my exhaust are held onto these collars by springs.
