Oddly enough I had the same problem last week. It may not be the same resolution but it try it out. There is a three way switch under the starter button that when you start your bike it deactivates the power to the headlights, and when you release the starter it swithces power back to the headlight, anyway when I checked mine the connection had broken and the soldering had gone bad. Give it a try, it might be your problem.

I've experienced something similar too. If it happens again, make sure your starter switch is all the way out. When you engage the starter, it shuts off your headlights/running lights, and if it's sticking it will keep them off. I notice this happening on my bike from time to time and that may be happening for you as well.
