I just bought one from the Honda dealer, it was around $50. Do not run your bike without a thermostat. Your engine will never reach operating temperature, and it can cause serious wear issues in the engine. Most engines need to run at about 180-195 degrees F to allow for proper wear/maximum bearing life.

Take the radiator cap off, start the bike. Let the bike reach operating temp, and keep watching the coolant in the radiator. If the coolant suddenly starts swirling, your thermostat is open/opening and coolant is circulating. If not, you have a stuck thermostat. Or, easy way, remove the thermostat, boil water in a pot, get it really damn hot, drop the thermostat in, watch and see if it opens.
