Default F2 Key help.

The key to my gas cover broke tonight in my cover while I was getting gas. It is the same key for my helmet lock too. Is there anyway on tuesday the dealership will be able to pull up my vin number to make another key or am I screwed?

If you have the key there is a (I believe) three digit code stamped on it.
Take the broken piece to the dealer and they'll get you a new one based on that code.

You might as well key it to your ignition now, it should be the same key, but I'm guessing your ignition has been changed.

You should still be able to open the tank using half of the key, correct?
If so, what I would do is remove the gas cap, take it to a locksmith, along with your ignition key and broken key, and ask them to key it up the same as your ignition.

Another option is to use the code no. on the head of the key, if it has one, and a good locksmith will be able to use the code to cut a new key.

Or, if you can't open the gas cap you might have to ride it to a locksmith, as the only thing a dealer can do is sell you a new blank key, they will not be able to cut it, but they might be able to give you the code through the vin.

The key has what I think is a code: X138 HD75. Hopefully the locksmith around the corner can help.

But my next question, how do you take the gas cover off if it is pressed in. Obviously the key broke off. I would need to take it to them to fish the key out.

It was a clean break. No way to turn it to open it.

most locksmiths can fix it. They're used to this type of stuff.

I was able to pull out the key and take it to the local Locksmith. I am fixed! Thanks for your help.

Your key sounds like it was an aftermarket key to begin with. As a note, if you are able to pick the lock on the gas cap the key code is stamped on the underside. My friend learned that the hard way after loosing his key and paying a locksmith to come out and pick the lock...
