Default f2 getting really hot! plz help

so i just bought my 92. and it gets super hot even just sitting at idle for a few minutes. the guy i bought it off of put a new thermostat in it. and i guess that didnt solve the problem. the fan doesnt seem to turn on at all. is it supposed to turn on at idle or just when getting warm? i would think if it just turns out when temps get high it'd turn on but it doesnt. coolants are all good. idk what to do

From what i have heard the f2's do run hot like mid to 3/4 the guage. If it gets in the red then you are in trouble but otherwise i wouldn't worry about it.

well its easily in 3/4 range. almost to the red zone.. my gauges are ****ty and off a salvaged bike too though so i dont know if thats it or what. the engine does feel really warm just sitting on it, buti've never had a bike before so i dont know whats normal. i dont wanna take it to a dealer and spend a ton of money on it. so i'm kind of stumped.

If the fan isn't coming on it is more then likely the thermostat switch (located clutch side, front of bike, bottom of radiator). I am going through the same problem now. If you remove the wire from the switch and ground it then turn the bike on the fan should come on. If it doesn't then the fan may be the problem. Rather then spend 40 to 50 dollars on a new thermostat switch i would just put a simple toggle switch (found at any hardware or radioshak store) and you can turn the fan on and off when you want to. Or just leave the wire grounded all the time and that would keep the fan on all the time. no problems there. Let me know if you figured this out. you may help me trouble shoot mine.

yea my f2 runs at less than1/4 on the highway and at idle in traffic fan turns on around 3/4 or so, never hits the red...ever. antsurf has a good idea but running your fan all the time would be a pain in the ***, or remembering to toggle. go get the thermo switch if you need it.
