Hey everyone,

So i got a call from my mechanic who was doing some things to my bike that I didnt really feel like doing. The problem is:

my F2 is running on 3 cylinders. He said that it seems that at about 7000 rpm that he thinks the 4th cylinder kicks in.

he thinks that the carbs are probably just gummed up and that they need a good cleaning. What does everyone else think? Does this sound about right, or are there other things that i should check as well before ripping my carbs apart?

also, if i have to rip my carbs apart, does anyone know where i can get a good rebuild kit to clean and rebuild them?

Sounds like some of your jets might be clogged.

 

Did the mechanic state that he tested spark on the 4th cylinder? Would be good to know that you're making spark throughout all of the RPM range.

Which cylinder is it that actually isn't running at lower RPM? Crank the bike up cold, and let it idle on 3 cylinders for a couple of minutes. Kill it and lightly touch each header pipe to find the cold one.

I'd probably pull that cylinder's plug and check it out - make sure spark looks good and all.

If all checks out on the ignition - then like Dragon said - time to go through the carbs. Maybe run some seafoam in the tank to see if you can get it cleaned up without disassembly, but usually if there's one problem, you need to go through all of them.

 

ok, I will look at all of this next time i go to work on my bike, hopefully within the next couple of days. Thanks, and I will definitely let you know whats going on if i figure it out

 

i have the same issue on carb 1 i can start the bike and grab the #1 header pipe cleaned the carbs out really good and still have the issue. just keep it over 7 all the time lol def if you fig out this issue post up your fix

 

Well, I was able to get out to my bike last night and do some work on it. Cylinder 3 or the 3rd one from the left when sitting on the bike is the one thats not working. I pulled the tank, air box and plugs. The first thing was that the air filter was filthy, which probably wasnt helping. I will include a picture of the plugs, and I am going to look at the carbs tonight and tomorrow. I also checked all of the plugs for spark, and they all were sparking. Idk if this helps any, or if it gives anyone ideas, but I figure id post up an update to see.

 

the air-filter being filthy could be the problem. I would put a new plug in (number 3 at least if not all 4) and a clean air filter and try to run it. If that doesn't fix it, tear into the carbs.

 

they all look a bit fouled to me. Try plugs first. Bike should run on the gas left in the float bowls for a minute or so. If it doesn't run on all 4, start spraying starting fluid or carb cleaner down the #3 carb and see if it smooths out and starts running on that stuff.

That should tell you that the carb needs attention.

 

im getting new plugs tonight and an air filter tomorrow, so I will try those suggestions, Thanks

 

Ok so I was able to play with the bike this weekend. I replace the air filter, spark plugs, cleaned out the carbs and checked the spark on plug 3, and everything is there, the spark is there, the carbs are clean but cylinder 3 still isnt working. It seems to run alright, and ride well even though cylinder 3 isnt working. anyone have any ideas? also, is it bad to ride it as is with cylinder 3 not working properly?
