First you gotta synch the synchronizer. The far right one was off somewhat. I got them all moving together pretty well though.

Then you got your readings which are all squirrley at first. This is after some minor adjusting. 1-2 were close-ish... 2-3 were somewhat off, and 3-4 was way off as 4 was pretty much closed. I'm hoping this isn't a factor of my calibration above though... I'll be rechecking that they are still synchronized before I patch everything up.

Then you SYNCHRONIZE!!!! I got them all pretty close and behaving similiar. Leads me to beleive they all must be synced. When a few were off they wouldn't move together in harmony. Makes me think I did my tool synchronization right... but again I'll double check.

Plans from here: Patch it up and test ride it. Do a "from the seat" analysis of how the new carburetor changes are taking.

I've seen those gauge sets on ebay - how well do they work, or is this your first shot w/ them? Any reason you went with a pair of the duals instead of the ones like these:

I went with a pair of duals as they were $5 less than buying a full set of four at my local shop. Not sure why... but it was cheaper this way so I went this way.

I'm not overly impressed with these gauges, but.. they're not exactly miserable either. This product, carbtune, comes highly recommended from other forum members at my usual stomping ground (pnwriders.com)

I rode the bike, and it feels WONDERFUL as far as vibration and smoothness goes. I was very impressed at just how big of a difference the carb synch made. It was definitely way off, and it really smoothened the bike out a ton!

Unfortunatey, going from needle position 2 to needle position 4 introduced a new problem... I've got a stumble around 7k when rolling on the throttle. It almost feels like a trucks turbo lag. Given it's during acceleration, and given the adjustment I made (needle raised, so more gas), it has to be too rich. I'm going to try the third clip from the top now and see what results I get. I already pulled apart the carbs, I already swapped everything over, and it's all good for the testing tomorrow, with just slapping a few things on I got too tired to do tonight (tank, seat, plastics).

I'll test ride this tomorrow. If it checks out (IE: Nothing blatantly wrong), I'll be leaving it alone and let the dyno run say the rest. My new clutch should be arriving friday as well, so I'll be spending a bunch of time installing that. I definitely need to dig up a new gasket though for my clutch cover.

Ran the bike today up bald peak and back after adjusting the needle to the third clip. Ran pretty good with no flatspot. Felt pretty good with smooth power delivery. The engine however did feel a lot buzzier, which was making me think the engine was lean... Definitely didn't have that problem on the fourth clip.

I'm done playing around. I'll be taking it to the dyno tuning and seeing where I'm actually at.

i think my sync kit was about 80 bucks or so. its pretty hardcore though. lots of adapters for all bikes, and a neat carrying case.

Your kit does look much nicer than mine.

You aren't supposed to do the synch with the carbs literally ontop of the bike though I learned. You'll pickup engine vibrations that way and it can skew your results.

JesseAwesome, spicymeowmix: what did you guys use as an auxiliary fuel tank?

I'm looking to do a carb sync soon too.. and I have the gauge set as you, JesseAwesome. So this thread is a huge help in helping me understand how well the gauges work. Thanks!

The gauges all require synching in adavnce. if you lack a vaccum pump, get a bunch of hose and t-intersections and sync them all off of cylinder 1.

For an auxilary fuel tank I have a plastic lawnmower gas tank and some fuel hose. Works wonders. I hear you can build one beer bong style as well and hang it from the cieling... but I prefer my lawnmower tank.
